Assistant Lighting Designer and Lighting Programmer

Project: Four Camera Shoot at Royal Albert Hall

Role:

  • Assisted Lead Lighting Designer Jamie Corbidge.
  • Served as Lighting Programmer, managing complex lighting sequences and adjustments in real-time.

Details:

  • Managed lighting for a diverse production featuring a full orchestra, ballroom dancing, aerial artists, and special guests.
  • Coordinated lighting setups across multiple locations within and around the Royal Albert Hall.
  • Adapted to a fast-paced environment with minimal rehearsal and camera testing time.
  • Ensured precision and reliability in lighting execution to support live filming, requiring accuracy on the first attempt.

Working alongside LD Jamie Corbidge this was a busy and intense four camera shoot over three days featuring a full orchestra, ballroom dancing, aerial artists and special guests.

The shoot made use of several locations in and around the Royal Albert Hall. With little time allowed for rehearsals and camera tests the entire team was kept on their feet and getting things right first time was more important than ever.

Blue Prism 2019 - UK and USA

Assistant Lighting Designer and Media Server Operator

Project: Blue Prism Event Series

Role:

  • Collaborated with Lead Lighting Designer Jamie Corbidge as Assistant Lighting Designer and Media Server Operator.
  • Managed the integration of complex lighting and media systems to create a visually stunning experience.

  • Blue Prism aimed to elevate their event presentation, moving from small-scale events to a grand production.
  • Delivered an impressive scaffolding structure with fully mapped video strips and an extensive lighting rig.
  • Met high expectations from this tech firm by integrating advanced lighting and video technologies into a cohesive design.

Key Contributions:

  • Successfully executed the initial event in London, ensuring seamless coordination of lighting and media elements.
  • Oversaw the second event in Orlando independently, ensuring continuity and maintaining high standards of design and execution.

Working alongside LD Jamie Corbidge, as his assistant LD and Media Server Operator this was a first for Blue Prism who wanted to make a big impression! 

They had previously done small scale events but wanted to level up and push their boundaries. As a tech firm they had high expectations and we delivered a huge scaffolding structure with fully mapped video strips as a set piece and a massive lighting rig all integrated to produce a stunning design.

With the initial event in London complete and Jamie busy with other duties, I was asked to take the lead for the second event in Orlando.

 

Sibos Innotribe 2019

Assistant Lighting Designer and Lighting Programmer

Project: Innotribe Area at Sibos Conference

Role:

  • Collaborated with Lead Lighting Designer Danny Evans as Assistant Lighting Designer and Lighting Programmer.
  • Managed the lighting design and programming to create an engaging and innovative environment.

Details:

  • The Innotribe area focused on innovation and creative disruption within the financial sectors, aiming to unite innovators and investors for the development of transformational products.
  • Tasked with making this area the show centerpiece while maintaining a laid-back and informal ambiance.
  • Coordinated every element to complement the central art installation of swimming fish.

Key Contributions:

  • Developed and executed a lighting design that stood out from the rest of the conference yet maintained a relaxed atmosphere.
  • Ensured seamless integration of lighting with the art installation and other design elements.
  • Worked closely with the creative and technical teams to achieve the desired aesthetic and functional outcomes.

Working alongside LD Danny Evans, as his assistant LD and Lighting Programmer the Innotribe area at the Sibos conference is all about innovation and creative disruption within the financial sectors. The area aims to bring together innovators and investors to identify, develop and implement transformational products.

The brief required the show to be a show centre piece and standout from everything else going on whilst maintaining a laid back and informal ambience. Every element of the area had to work together and fit around the centre piece of a giant art installation of swimming fish.

Redbull Culture Clash 2014

Lighting Programmer

Project: Culture Clash at Earl’s Court

Role:

  • Collaborated with Lead Lighting Designer Jamie Corbidge as the Lighting Programmer.
  • Managed the lighting programming for a high-profile music event featuring multiple stages and a vast audience.

Details:

  • The event filled Earl’s Court with four stages for the world’s biggest music battle, featuring Rebel Sound (Chase and Status, Shy FX, Rage, and David Rodigan), Boy Better Know, Stone Love, and A$AP Mob.
  • Drew a crowd of 20,000 music fans, with an additional quarter of a million fans watching online.
  • Pushed technological boundaries with eight lighting consoles and over 500 lighting fixtures, coordinating across four different stages.

Key Contributions:

  • Executed meticulous planning and coordination to manage the complex lighting requirements.
  • Ensured flawless control and synchronization of lighting effects across multiple stages.
  • Delivered a visually stunning experience that contributed to the event’s spectacular success.

Working alongside LD Jamie Corbidge, as his Lighting Programmer The Culture Clash filled Earl’s Court with 4 different stages to host the world’s biggest music battle. Featuring Rebel Sound (Chase and Status, Shy FX, Rage and David Rodigan), Boy Better Know, Stone Love and A$AP Mob and a crowd of 20,000 music fans as well as the quarter of a million fans watching along online.

This was a massive event and pushed the technological boundaries to the limits – 8 lighting consoles, over 500 fixtures and four different stages to be controlled simultaneously along with the ability to take over the whole room on demand. There was a lot of planning and co-ordination to get everything just right. Ultimately everything was spot on and the event was a spectacular success.
